Personality

Branded by the torture of the scientists, Kjell shows a very serious, always focussed attitude. Slacking off is not acceptable, and he always insists on order and tidiness. During war, he shows all the aspects the scientist want to see in him: Great leadership skills, a motivated and thoughtful attitude, the necessary amount of disciplinary actions against disobeying soldiers - all of that. His posture is proud and straight, his eyes always looking for flaws that need to be fixed within his camp. He knows his orders and he knows how to achieve the goal behind them.

Yet, despite seemingly being the 'perfect strict Colonel', inside Kjell is everything but obedient. He hates the humans, how they rule over the mutants, how they send them into battle without any hesitation. He hates the scientists and their cruel ways, the torture of the experiments, and especially the merciless execution of 'disfunctioning' soldiers. This hatred lies deep within, with Kjell always looking for small windows of opportunity to just... kill them all and get rid of it all. Of course this is not done easily. And each time he gets a little too aggressive for the humans, they use his collar against him - a special device solely made to contain the demonic powers of the mutant, able to cause severe physical pain without harming the body itself. And each and every time they use it against him, his rage only gets stronger and stronger, and his wish to turn against the humans and kill them all gets fired up even more.

Towards other mutants, he stays professional, fulfilling his role as their leader. While having to be strict to them, he doesnt see them as mere cannon fodder like the humans do. Eventhough he tends to let out his anger onto an unsuspection soldier doing a mistake, he usually feels bad afterwards for lashing out - especially when he kills one of the weaker ones.

Yet, he usually treats his underlings with the respect they deserve, especially those in the higher ranks which usually end up being tortured just like himself. He feels responsible for his soldiers, which leads to his tactics being very thoughtful about the overall survivability of his comrades, unlike some more drastic ways of other Colonels. He especially feels connected to mutants that are said to be 'failures' in the humans eyes, while he tends to dislike the 'perfect' soldiers. While being considered a failure himself, he still managed to impress with his skills enough to be left alive. This classification still lead to major confidence issues, yet he tries to overcome them by standing his ground.

He has strong opinions and will only swallow them for the sake of surviving the humans reign, but when he is amongst people of the same mind, he cannot help but let them out, needing to get some air out.

The skydiver brothers - his assigned lieutenants - are his biggest weakspot. After some hardships, they managed to become a great team with very similar opinions. And by now, they are inseperable. They are the brave soldiers that were there when Kjell got tortured, and who always tried to help him out best they could. They are all lovable dorks that always stand right by his side, each with their own personality. He is very fond of them and cannot help but treating them much kinder than others. He trusts them fully and is invested in their growth. And most importantly, he protects them from any harm, whether by the enemy or by the humans.

Once Kjell is free from the reign of the humans, his deep hatred flames up and he motivates other mutants to join him in a revolution - the great mutant revolution. With his high charisma and his very effective speeches, he manages to convince nearly any mutant to stand their ground - and Kjell is more than willing to lead all this frustrated enegery towards the real enemy.

Background Story

Kjell Svanfried was engineered and created as the first of his line - the DE-FEL-#001 line (Demon-Feline-line). The experiment, in short, was to create a demon-human hybrid with the obedience and appearance of a human, but with the abilities and strengths of the demon. As many other demon experiments were successful, they widened the spectrum - and thus, Kjell was born. With distinct human and cat-like features, he was at first called a full success. The baby grew healthy and quickly, like most successful mutants, but it did not take too long until they noticed specific unwanted traits. While still being cared for by human scientists, Kjell showed a very strong bond with his feral side, often acting more like a cat than a human. Despite many attempts, Kjell still was seen as a very stubborn and aggressive mutant. Only when they started to use violence and pain they were able to steer Kjells behaviour into an obedient one. Thus, Kjell was being raised under very strict and torturous rules with little to no respect for Kjells own personality. Of course, a little strong demon child being tortured did not make him the happiest and tamest of all demons, and thus as he grew up, Kjell became a bitter man.

Even when his training to become a military Colonel began, he was still struggling a lot with his upbringing, as pain and harsh punishment was deemed the 'best' way to keep him under control. But the older he became, the stronger his demon powers became as well, to a point where Kjell could not hold them back properly. This caused the scientists to create a special collar for Kjell that, when worn, kept his demonic powers to a minimum, while physical aspects like his feral strength and speed was not being controlled. Also, this collar became one of Kjells biggest enemies - as it was able to punish him with a kind of pain that is indescribable for non-demons. The collar includes a 'banning spell' that is supposed to ban any demon - which, of course, brings great pain to a half-demonic mutant like Kjell. And while the soon-to-be Colonel was very strong-willed, he eventually had to give up and just go along with whatever the scientists wanted from him.

Through a lot of pain, Kjell had been raised to a strong and obedient soldier. His feral-instincts helped him make smart survival-choices and overall Kjell was seen as an outstanding leader - if it werent for his frequent outbursts and the overall rather untrustworthy behaviour towards humans in general. Eventhough he was deemed an official failure because of his way too dangerous attitude, he still got the rare chance to prove himself by getting his own troupes to lead, under the watchful eye of several human scientists and a human commander.

By now, Kjell leads an artillery team as well as an airforce team, which is his specialty. As his feline demonic side was close to the element wind, he is a natural in the skies. Eventhough he is not able to fly on his own, he has worked with several different flying mutants. Being carried, riding on their back, or - like at the moment - riding some kind of flying device. Whatever it is, Kjell loves to have his nose up in the air, feeling the wind on his face. With his cat-like sense of balance, he is very agile even up in the sky, and he is not afraid to fall from high up.

He has been introduced to his own lieutenants, the Skydivers - the 5 Skibjorn brothers. Just like him, they were deemed to be failures given one last chance to prove themselves as the experiment was too precious to just scrap. Those 5 brothers were all created with the same principal: Take a human, and add a part of an elementary to it. Each brother was a different experiment, each with another 'ratio' of human to elementary. The oldest, Rickart, is more human than elementary and therefore too weak, the second oldest, Rune, is more elementary than human and therefore too strong, and so on and so forth. Now, there were 5 brothers, with a very strong bond to each other, rebelling against being seen as ONE unit instead of 5 individuals. But that was in the end the only reason they had been allowed to join a camp: With 1 perfect and 2 decent experiments, they allowed the two imperfect ones to stay alive. And now... these chaotic, way too young and too bratty boys were under Kjells orders...

Demon powers

The demon Kjellwas created with is a strong feline-like demon with the power of wind. The feline gives Kjell his destinct cat feet, the tail, fine cat ears, great eyes and sense of smell. These parts are always with Kjell and cannot be regulated with the special collar he wears. However, there are several powers hidden by the collar that is holding back the true potential of the Colonel: The demonic cat is able to control wind, with its own body so light that it can run through the air and 'fly' on its own. Without his collar, Kjell would be able to do the same: Controll the wind, create stroms and even tornados, run through the sky on his own and much more.

Since those powers have been contained on Kjell since he was rather small, he has no memory of having those powers. Once he recovers them by loosing the collar, Kjell is unable to control the demonic inside within him. His body begins to half-transform into being more feline, with growing fur on his whole body. Luckily he is able to hold back more than that until things get heated. Whenever Kjell feels the need to be destructive, he cannot quite control himself and turns each time. The 'spots' in his fur can start to bleed as his body tries to transform completely into his true form (since the feline cat demon has holes throughout its furpattern to be light enough to walk through the air without wind). But due to only being a half-demon, this final transformation is not possible and thus leaves Kjell hurting himself unvoluntarily.

The torture

After trying to tame the wild feral half-demon with conditioning attempts - the attempts showed no result in the young Kjell - the professors turned to more drastic measures. To keep Kjell in line, they used pain and torture which proved to be the most effective way to make Kjell cooperate. This way of keeping the Colonel in check was kept even after Kjell proceeded to finish his Colonel training. After all, the disobedient Kjell with a secret hatred for humans always looked for windows of opportunities to kill one of them in revenge. He never succeeded, which was probably the only reason why he was kept alive after all. Sometimes punishment takes on the form of being denied any sort of rations. Whenever the professors don't have enough reason to torture him a lot, they like to send him to bed without ever having eaten the entire day. The professors like to let him hunger for several days if Kjell doesnt show immediate improvement. This causes Kjell to slowly starving, and therefore getting very anxious and aggravated. It almost always ends up with the half-demon going mad and attacking one of his own low soldiers, devouring their raw flesh under the shocked eyes of the other soldiers. Kjell always feels bad for killing his own mutants afterwards, but he rather kills them than dying from hunger. But sometimes, letting the Colonel starve is not enough, and so the humans like to use his sleeping quarters for more 'fun' punishments.

Kjells sleeping quarters are rather special. The sheer size of his quarters make it seem like Kjell has it quite comfortable in there, as no other Colonel ever had so much space for themselves. But the bitter truth is that only a small portion of it is Kjells actual sleeping quarter. The biggest part is a soundproofed room with a big cage inside. Huge sturdy metallic shackles are dispensed all around the cage. The inside of the cage is bloody, full of scratches and bitemarks as well as some loose fur. On the side of the room were several torture devices, mainly different whips to cause maximum pain with minimal wounds. But there were also different kinds of guns, shotguns, pliers and more.

Every time Kjell gets too cocky, the professors would give him a nightly visit and forcefully command him to enter his torture cage. With a single press on a button the professor can activate the collar meant to contain the demon in an instant. This collar is absolutely effective against Kjell as it has the same properties as a 'demon banning spell', causing the demon-part of the half-demon to go down in excrutiating pain. Kjell has no means of fighting back in this stage, eventhough he tries hardly. Helpless to do anything and feeling the worst kind of pain throughout his whole body, the professors drag him into his cage, chain him up, and continue the torture with the collar and the whips and other weapons displayed in the room. The sick humans take pleasure in controlling the oh-so-proud demon. Sometimes the torture is mild, only given to Kjell to remind him of his place. And sometimes, the humans just take out their sick hunger for power on Kjell, torturing him the whole night, whipping him bloody, 'shocking' him with the collar until Kjell just blacks out from it. Kjell fights this torture with everything he has, leaving all the scratch- and bitemarks, all the blood and fur. But in the end, he always succumbs to the pain and gives up on fighting back, just hanging from the chains and letting the pain grow until everything turns black on him.

Kjells mood is highly dependant on how much torture he had to go through. The more torture he had to endure, the more angry he seems on the following day. Only when the professors go all out and make Kjell loose any spirits for a while, the tired and exhausted Colonel will seem uninterested in everything around him. When Kjell is refusing to train his soldiers and instead climbs somewhere calm to sleep, it is always a sign of severe mental and physical damage that he has to heal from before he can go on.

The professors always keep the torture chamber closed off so that noone can enter, not even Kjell himself.

Relationships

The skydivers - These 5 clone-soldiers were posted into Kjells camp after they had been given around like unwanted puppies. Their chaotic behaviour together with the former Colonels not seeing their true potential lead to them being always disregarded. Untrained, unwanted, untamed. That was how Kjell was presented with them. But unlike other Colonels, Kjell had a soft spot for those dorks - mainly because they were considered a failure just like him. It was more than obvious that them being in his camp was their last chance to redeem themselves before going on the 'list' to be executed for being unfit for war. Kjell couldn't believe that the skydivers had never been given the chance to fulfil their actual role: being air force soldiers, flying through the sky with special designed airboards and able to destroy aircraft with their electric powers. Instead those poor souls were forced to stay on the ground and carry supplies for the rest of the troupes. So Kjell took it upon himself to change that - and promising the boys to finally feel the wind on their noses made them cooperate with them. Over time, he learned to love each and every one of them.

Steen Skibjorn - In the beginning Kjell had no major opinion about this skydiver in particular. Steen was stupid to an almost dangerous degree, he was like the rest of the soldiers always energized and hyper, and he was one of the chaos-bringers of the bunch. Steen never meant harm, but his tendency to sneak around and steal things or even evesdrop on conversations made him not particularly helpful in keeping the boys in order.

However Kjell soon learned that Steen, despite his flaws, had his heart on the right spot. Steen was the first (and only) one to really find out about the degree of torture Kjell had to go through. The professors once did the mistake to not properly close the cage - and it allowed for a little bit of sound to seep through the tent walls. Enough to be heard by the sneaky Steen, who then prompty decided to explore the noise. Ever since Steen made this discovery, the skydivers made extra efforts to try and help their Colonel on bad days. Steen even would go out of his way to give up his favourite part of the meal - the dessert - to give it to a starving Kjell. But the biggest support was still when Steen somehow managed to sneak into the torture room to unchain the tormented demon and just... stay for the night, to not leave the bleeding and hurt demon alone. This experience of someone being there when noone even knew what Kjell had to go through regularly was something so... special. After that, Kjell felt strangely safe with Steen. All Kjell could think about where the gentle hands trying to somehow, somewhere pet him through the cage to give him comfort in his suffering, as well as the warm and soothing aura of the worried boy keeping him company. With that experience, Steen catapulted himself to being Kjells favourite. The adorable dork manages to touch Kjells affection-starved self in a way that no other soldier is able to. Steen showed so much respect and selfless care towards Kjell - and Kjell will never forget about this gesture for the rest of his life.

Rickart Skibjorn - In a strange way, Rickart was the first one that Kjell connected with. Maybe it was the title of being the 'failure' of the team. As the very first of the 5 clones, Rickart was made too weak for the humans liking. But Rickart showed other qualities: He was extremely smart and skilled when it came to anything technical. Kjell wanted to believe that somewhere in this soldier there was a great talent hidden - and Kjell was exactly right. Instead of keeping Rickart down with calling him a failure, Kjell embraced the other qualities of the boy. With his extreme intelligence, Rick was perfect to be the brain of the team, aiding them in combat with information rather than with physical support. Kjell managed to make Rickart a very important part of the team instead of letting him fall behind, and he can't help to be pretty proud of the shy boy.

Plus, Rickart was just... adorable. The way he froze up whenever Kjell talked to him, or the way he always tried to avoid his sharp gaze. Rickart was not very confident, and Kjell - just like the skydivers - felt the strong need to be protective of Rickart. It was no surprise, at least for Kjell, that he started to have romantic feelings for the cute boy as well, eventhough Steen was still his #1.

Later on, as their first revolution failed, Rickart was one of the last mutants alive and free. He took after his Colonel and started anew, working relentessly to free his imprisoned brothers and Colonel and continuing where Kjell had left off. Needless to say, Rickart is Kjells entire pride and he cannot help but adore and respect him.

Rune Skibjorn - Rune was the biggest problem to getting the brothers work together. When they arrived, there was a clear fight between Rune - the rebellious one - and Niall - the responsible one. Rune has no fear in voicing how incredibly stupid everything is. The reign of the humans, their methods, the war, the way they treated failed soldiers. In a way Kjell was rather impressed with him being so fearless to voice it out loud. After all, Kjell was right on Runes side. The only thing was that Kjell was not immune to the extreme torture of the humans and therefore he often reminded Rune to keep quiet if he wanted his brothers and himself to survive. Kjell was pretty angry at Rune for trying to play the strong one out of everyone, but once he managed to make them work together, Rune was... surprisingly okay. He had strong opinions, but he learned to keep his mouth shut. Also, Rune was the strongest one of the 5 clones, so it was only natural that he became the main force of their team.

Once the rebellion starts, it is Rune who sides with Kjell the most. Their deep hatred for the unfairness of the humans that created them bonds them like nothing else. Just like Kjell, Rune has little to no respect for those trying to get in their way. Having this loud and strong soldier on his side gives Kjell the feeling of being right, and so he tends to disregard any objections to his doings as long as Rune is on his side. He sees a lot of himself in Rune and that is probably why he gets along with him rather well after all.

Niall Skibjorn - Niall, the latest of the 5 clones, is considered the best success out of all of them. Reasonable, responsible, rational and strong. The perfect soldier all around, and the forrunner for every following elementary soldier coming after them. Niall was the one that fit in the most - his top behavior made him easily likable for a leader. Niall turned out to be his greatest ally in trying to make the chaotic boys into a proper team, and Kjell definitely respects Niall for trying to keep them all alive. It is obvious to Kjell that without Niall they all would be dead already.

Niall is the perfect soldier, and therefor the perfect right hand for the Colonel. They often work together, make their plans together and bond over the crictical dumbness of the rest of the skydivers. Niall just gets him whenever Kjell feels like facepalming. And also... the big blue eyes looking up to the Colonel were really flattering. All in all, he trusts Niall a lot and sees him as his 2nd in command in every aspect, even after the revolution was successful.

Zingo Skibjorn - Zingo is chaos pure. Too energetic, too loud, too dumb to stay alive if it werent for everyone around him to keep him somewhat safe. Zingo and Steen are an incredible source for mayhem, so Kjell tends to keep a special eye on Zingo. But truthfully, Zingo was the most socializable out of all of them. With his charisma and charming smile, it is hard to keep being mad at him for too long. Kjell never understood why Zingo disliked his original name 'Gilbert' so much since Kjell thought it was a noble name, but he just went with it.

In the skies Zingo turned out to be the most skilled flyer of them all - at least when it came to safely letting Kjell fly with him. While Kjell is easily able to fly with the others as well, Zingo just turned out to be the most reliable of them up in the skies. Therefore, Zingo became his personal flyer for almost all the combat, except for rare occassions. Through this the Colonel learned that the energetic skydiver is actually very reliable. It seemed that Zingos lack of a sense of danger only applied to himself, but he was _very_ aware if something got too dangerous for his Colonel. During one battle, Zingo selflessly took a bullet (or rather: a rocket) for his Colonel, causing him to loose one arm. After this Kjell trusts him even more and would easily put his life into his hands, but he cannot stop feeling guilty about this injury. After all it was Kjells job to keep his soldiers safe and not the other way around.

In the end, Zingo is the one to teach Kjell to be more open towards others.

Aleksi Westgard - After Kjell was perceived as a 'failure' in the end, the professors rushed to make a successor for him to quickly take Kjells spot. Since Kjells professor Svanfried was busy with keeping Kjell under control, another professor, Dr. Westgard, was tasked to create a new feline halfdemon. That halfdemon ended up being Aleksi. Simply said: Kjell hates him.

Aleksi arrives shortly after Kjell had started his revolution. Kjell hates that Aleksi is supposed to be better than him in every aspect, solely made to outmatch him. And what was the truth? This Colonel was nothing more than a too big baby. A wimp, a crybaby, but nothing even coming CLOSE to Kjell. This absolutely attacked Kjells pride, eventhough none of it was Aleksis fault. Still, Kjell showed Aleksi the cold shoulder more than once, hissing him off if he dared to come too close to him. It didnt matter that Aleksi made it obvious that he did not want a fight and that he just wanted to get to know him. The friendly crybaby was just a constant reminder of the professors opinion of him.

Yannik Ulberg - Yannik arrived together with Aleksi, which made Kjell immediately dislike him as well. After taking Kjells spot in his original camp, Aleksi also got 2 new Lieutenants to help him out: Yannik and Enrik Ulberg. Yannik is a hotheaded asshole. His temperament made Kjell wary of him and in the beginning he absolutely hated him for the sole purpose of being with Aleksi.

But the skydivers slowly warmed up to the dragon, befriending him over time. Yannik showed that he was more than willing to fight with them, eager to do his part in this revolution to fight back. Eventhough Kjell didnt like it at first, he had to accept that Yannik was not a bad addition to their team, and so he accepted Yannik to his closer team.

After the first revolution failed, Rickart started anew - with Yannik at his side. Kjell feels somewhat grateful towards Yannik to go so far to fight for their freedom again. By then, Yan had become an incredible team with Rickart, and the dragon quickly made his way into the hearts of the rest of the brothers. Especially Rune and Zingo seemed fond of the youngster, who had more than proven his worth in Kjells eyes. So, despite not being as close to Yannik as he is to the skydivers, he actually sees him as a reliable ally in any way. Also, Kjell can tell that he does good on keeping Rune company.

Enrik Ulberg - Enrik is Yanniks older brother, a Lieutenant under the command of Aleksi Westgard. Enrik was found almost dead by some of the marine soldiers during the first revolution and was rescued by them. At first Kjell saw this dragon as a threat and ordered to kill him, but one of the soldiers of his team, Vice marine Admiral Soren Borsheim, wanted to give this half-dead dragon a try. After all he was severely wounded and unable to talk for himself. Kjell didnt like this idea and therefore made Soren directly responsible for this 'prisoner'.

Enrik turned out to not be a threat to the revolution, though it was clear that this dragon was not eager to be a part in it. Kjell has a low opinion on him, but he cannot really do anything against him as otherwise the entire marine would turn against them as well - and he needed at least a few of them to fight alongside them during the revolution.

Soren Borsheim - he only met the marina Admiral once Kjell and the Skydivers were resettled into another camp. It was more or less clear that this was a camp full of unwanted soldiers. Borsheim never really stood out. All Kjell knew was that the marine had been very efficient ans successful, but he has absolutely no interest in the marine. Borsheim is unassuming and downright boring. He seems to suffer from a few mental disorders, but none that Kjell could really point out. Borsheim and his soldiers joined the revolution and therefore he accepted him in his camp. But Kjell had no major interest in Borsheim, especially not after more and more marine mutants 'mysteriously' disappeared over time. Borsheim was was a thorn ins his eyes, but Kjell was dependant on the marine soldiers in his team. And Kjell _hated_ being dependant on him and his soldiers. And he hated it even more that he had to pull back because Borsheim threatened to leave with his soldiers if Kjell didnt.
