The mutant wars - Setting, Storyline

Norway, 2054

This story plays in the rather near future, in Norway in the year of 2054. Technology is, in some parts, highly evoled, with Norway being the leading country in the fields of biological technology. Enhancing the human body, fusing it with technology, or - even more prominent in Norway - creating new lifeforms arteficially. 'Cloning' is the keyword. Splicing human and animal DNA together, or even merging human lifeforms with supernatural lifeforms. Demons, elementaries, spirits - Norway has revolutionized life on planet earth.

But not without a reason. The ressources of the land become less and less, almost drained completely. Metals, oil, hell- even the fertile ground are becoming scarce. And not only in Norway - the earth has been exploited in every part of the world. Every country grew greedy with its ressources, leaving Norway almost starving - until Norway finally had enough.

Their advances in the fields of medicine and biology seemed like the only ace in their sleeve. Thus, Norway went the last step - and started production of mutant soldiers. At first, it were simple enhanced clones. A strong, smart and overall 'perfect' human with high obedience has filled the empty ranks of the military, to 'save the citizens from the hardships of war'. But clone armys were not enough. The scientists continued their research, and soon began legalizing the production of superhuman beings. The great experimental phase began. And Norway officially went to war against Sweden.

The experiments

With the focus on the ongoing war against Sweden, the scientists made hundreds of different experiments, some successful and some mere failures. Each and every experimental line has a focus on a certain role of the military - whether it may be artillery, airforce or navy - and with special abilities useful for that field. The artillery mutants, for example, often have a focus on damage resistence and very offensive melee powers, while navy mutants are naturally improved to fight in water, and airforce mutants obviously need to be able to fly. Depending on the success of the soldiers that result from their tests, the mutants either get ranked to be cannon fodder or something higher like lieutenant or colonel - while humans and scientists are ranked the highest to avoid the mutants having too much say in this war.

The mutants are 'designed' to have a very short childhood, growing up quickly to their teenage years where training starts right away. With 5 or 6 years, a mutant is already considered an adult, eventhough every mutant takes a different time to grow up. Therefore, many mutants get thrown into war way too early, usually signing their deathsentence right then and there.

When an experimental line is considered successful, it is not rare that follow-ups are being created, with potential updates and enhancements that showed in the first mutants.

Currently existing experimental lines (with importance):

• The DE line, which combines humanity and demons. This line is full of varieties, as demons can be vastly different from each other. Most of them, however, are made for higher ranking positions, given how versatile they are. Demons themselves of course can base on other beings, such as animals or mysthical creatures.

• The ELEM line, which combines humanity and elementaries. Also known as element-ghosts, elementaries are magical beings solely made out of their represented element. They are powerful spirits that got captured and forced into human shells. The line is subdivided into electricity-elementary, fire-elementary and earth-elementary. Water has been ignored as there were enough water-based mutants already.

• The CHES line, which combines humanity and cheshire-spirits. Cheshire-spirits are quite fascinating and very hard to contain. These spirits were captured and bound to a human-mutant vessel, giving the vessel control over the spirit and their powers. The line is subdevided into the different species of cheshire spirits that have been captured: a feline, a rodent and a canine.

• The ULT line, which is... less a line and more a singular individual. The ULT mutant is a combination of the best out of all the former lines, creating the ultimate mutant. Indestructable, obedient and endlessly powerful. This line was lost to an attack on the laboratory that housed the mutant.

• The C line. It is less of a line on its own, but most other line has a subdevision called 'C' for clone mutants. Every clone-line is equipped with rather basic powers if any and are not meant to be of higher rank.

The status of the mutants - powerful slaves

Mutants are specially created for this war agains Sweden. Therefore, they are just seen as mighty weapons and nothing else. They are not treated as people, but as mere things. Obedience towards the humans is the #1 rule for all mutants created. Defying them means certain death for the mutants - especially for the lower ones. Every camp and station has a leading human officer that controls all the mutants beneath them. Of course they have higher-ranked mutants as well to aid them, yet the humans always have the last word in everything.

This, of course, leads to a severe injustice towards the mutants, who ARE living and feeling beings. While the scientists do their best to create bloodthirsty, obedient warriors, they cannot control how the personality turnes out in the end. Many feisty mutants have lost their lives early, as only a few special experimental lines are considered too valuable for instant death. For those special mutants, which are considered a powerful weapon against the enemy but that show too much of their own free will, the scientists will create special devices of any kind to keep them under control. Whether it may be a device to inflict pain on the mutant, or to cap the use of the powers - almost all higher ranked soldiers have some kind of torturous device in or on them that keeps them in line. Not that it would make them any happier, but it makes them controllable.

The general Storyline - the mutant revolution

The main storyline follows the steps of Colonel Kjell Svanfried and his loyal lieutenants, the Skydivers. It shows the hardships of different kinds of troubled mutants having to work together to be successful in combat. At first, the main problem is the development of this new airforce camp, with Kjell having to train the Skydivers to listen to him and to respect him. While Kjell has his own issues of being very aggressive and not very submissive towards the humans, the Skydiver brothers are fed up with being considered 'one and the same' eventhough each of them has his own personality. Over time, the team learns how to deal with each other, and how to work with each other. It brings along respect for the other, and eventually quite much success in the fights against the enemies.

But the view shifts the longer the camp functions. With Kjell being often tortured by the scientists for his bad and aggressive behaviour, and the skydivers often failing obedience tests towards the humans as well, it soon get apparent that the human leaders want to get rid of them alltogether. After a lot of different events of meeting other similar-thinking mutants, the mood thickens and Kjell finally snaps - and starts to work on a revolution.

With his team, he plots how to escape the torturous devices of the humans, and with the help of the most powerful mutant of all time, they finally manage the breakthrough, overthrowing the humans in their camp and taking control.

The revolution begins.

Lead by Kjell and his Skydivers, the mutants arise, slowly causing chaos in each camp they raid, gathering more and more followers, while killing each and everyone that does not want to help them. It gets so far that mutants, that joined the revolution, even decide to flee from the revolution as well, as it involves even more fighting, but Kjell is certain in his ways. They finally go to battle against one of the biggest human laboratories, which include big parts of the government as well - but the attack fails and many mutants are getting killed or imprisoned, with all survivors having to go through horrible attempts to brainwash them. Only when an old comrade helps Kjell escape, who then rescues his dearest skydivers as well, do they learn that the revolution never died. A handful of survivors, including one of the skydivers who was thought to be dead, have taken the revolution in their hands. Under the name and sign or Kjell himself, the revolution had become even bigger than Kjell could have imagined - and he takes his rightful place as the rebellion leader again.

After organizing the much bigger revolution now, they start a new attack - and finally are victorious. What happens after they have won the war against their own land remains to be seen.
