Personality

If you dont know Rorik, you might easily get the feeling that he doesnt like you. Rorik is a quiet guy, rather pondering for himself and keeping his sentences short. He is not much of a talker and prefers to be on his own. When you try to talk to him, he will make it short and not look happy about the contact. Therefore, he does not have many friends, yet is respected in the temple for his honesty. Rorik has strong opinions. And eventhough he doesnt really feel the need to make them be heard, he will absolutely share it with you if you ask. Once he warms up, he might actually get a little clingy. Eventhough he would neeever admit it, he is lonely at times. Also, he does not trust many people, at least when it comes to personal issues or problems. That means that he does not have anyone to talk about his own hardships, if he ever faces some. Often just swalling things into himself, he gets frustrated and antsy, until a friend - mostly Atem Yaro - takes a bit of time for him to listen to him and give him advice. When Rorik is in an exceptional good mood, he will often hum little songs, smile from ear to ear and nothing will be able to bring him down. These moments are the best to approach him, as his grumpy attitude is nowhere to be seen.

In his horse form, however, he shows a lot less grumpiness. Eventhough he does not use his form often anymore, he still sometimes uses it to get peoples attention. Headscratches here, some cleaning there. Rorik loves to be groomed, to look his best, and he can get very moody when he feels dirty, especially as a horse. But at least, when he is just a cute horse, people usually pet him for a bit, which he secretly enjoys quite much.

In emergency situations, Rorik will stand his ground and try to scare the attacker away. He is big and muscular, his voice deep and growly, and with his additional horsebody he can be very impressive to look at. He is not afraid to take the bullet for someone in need, and will easily get frustrated when he fails to protect someone.

Background Story

Rorik is one of Atem Yaros 'outsiders', meaning that he is not native to the Nimbus world. He has no memory of how he got into this foreign dimension, he just 'woke up' someday to find himself in a place he had never seen before.

Rorik was born in a wild centaur tribe, actually named 'Tyr'. Civilisation was nothing for them, they rather lived like wild horses, traveling from place to place to find the next better grassland. He was the only-child of his mother, yet other mares had kids as well, so he was never alone and had plenty of children to play with. Even in young years, Tyr was stronger than the other children, and soon was the runner-up to be the next leader of the tribe. While the lifestyle was similar to those of wild horses, they still lived together with multiple stallions. Rorik, however, grew up to become the strongest and fastest of his generation, and thus became the next tribe leader. As the leading stallion, he was getting dips on the ladies, which meant that he was responsible for the new generation of foals. One mare in particular got Tyrs interest, Falana, and the two quickly became a couple.

But then, one morning, Tyr opened his eyes and was... alone. The field of grass had become a dry desert, the sun beaming down relentlessly. The fjord horse was not used to this kind of intense, hot weather, not to mention that he was completely lost. Where was he? Where was his tribe? His head was full of questions as he stumbled through the desert. He could see something in the distance, maybe a city. So he walked towards it, coming closer, watching little dots move in the distance, but the heat and the long journey took their toll on him. Tyr took one last step before he collapsed.

When he woke up, he was greeted by strange people in masks. Needless to say, Tyr almost flipped out if it wasnt for the calming and comforting voice of Atem Yaro. The lion-masked man talked to him for hours. He explained that 'Tyr' could no longer be his common name, but instead is his 'true' name, a name that noone is supposed to know except him. Yaro explained all the special circumstances around the dimension he had fallen into. A dimension, called the Nimbus, that he would never be able to escape from. His old life was lost, completely.

Tyr - from now on called Rorik - spent days, weeks, months griefing for his old life. He missed Falana, his children, the entire tribe. He missed the wide grasslands, the cold wind, the plenty rain. And for a long, long time he despised the city he got to live in. Yaro was kind enough to give him shelter in his luxorious temple, but he could never feel at home. The warm and dry weather, the weird traditions - they all pissed Rorik off. But Rorik was never someone to openly explain about things that bothered him, so he just grew more and more frustrated - until he had enough one day. In a fit of rage, Rorik destroyed the room he was inhabiting, hurting himself in the process. Only when he had left out enough anger and power, encouraged by Atem Yaros calm voice, he was able to finally break down and just... cry. Cry for several hours, finally letting it all out that had bothered him. The homesickness, his lost love, his past life - Yaro listened to him quietly, just letting him talk, knowing it was all Rorik needed. After this, Rorik finally was able to put his grief down. Eventhough thinking about the past gets him melancholic, Rorik realized that he could not continue living in constant grief.

From that time on, Rorik tried to fit in, to.. help and give back to Atem Yaro. After some time, he learned how to craft masks in the traditional ways of the Suns, soon learning how to channel his concentration into art. But not only that. When the old Commander of the royal guard stepped down due to his age, Rorik applied to become the next one. Which... did not require much of him as the royal guard of the Sun was barely existing. With usually the most powerful Atems, the kingdom of the Sun was not dealing with any kinds of threats. It was rather an official title that needed to be filled. And the little tasks it involved - accompanying the Atem on official trips, stepping up when danger was near, keeping the temple (and the citizens) at peace - where no real match for Rorik, who otherwise just spent his time crafting masks or just relaxing.

Special powers

As Rorik comes from another dimension, he is not bound to the rules of the Nimbus. Therefore, he does have special abilities without being considered to become an Atem - eventhough he technically would qualifiy for it. Rorik is able to choose between 3 forms: Human form, centaur form or horse form. While back in the day in his old life, he changed into each frequently, he now rarely uses his powers. Only Atem Yaro and some very close servants of the temple are aware of his powers, as he keeps them down.

These powers are the reason why he obviously chose a horse-mask to represent him in public.

Relationships

Samael - This... quirky man is the latest of Yaros outsiders. And one of a special kind indeed. He unvoluntarily followed his brother Malek into this strange dimension. And unlike many of the outsiders, Samael could absolutely say that the Nimbus was probably the best place he could end up at. At first Rorik did not really care for Samael, as Rorik is not the social type. But... somehow he could feel a deep sadness and emotional distress in this young man. And in a place where everything was smiles and flowers, it was almost natural that Samael ended up befriending the calm and gloomy Rorik. And now... Rorik is glad he did, as he deeply appreciates his presence. Finally Rorik did not constantly feel alone anymore. Samael knows when to be quiet and when to smile. And his smile is so stunning. For the first time in his time in the new dimension, Rorik was able to feel... love again.

Atem Yaro - Atem Yaro was the kind stranger that took him under his wings when he arrived in this weird dimension. He was at first a bit creeped out by him, as Yaro just always knew what to say or not to say. And soon he learned about his powers and that he was the ruler of the kingdom he landed in. Yet, over time Yaro became one of his most trusted friends as it was useless to lie or to hide something from him. He just always... knew. And that made him a good listener. Even when Rorik didnt find the right words, he still knew what he meant and how he felt. By now, he deeply respects Yaro for who he is and is proud to be his Commander, even when his service is little needed.

Malek - Malek is Samaels brother and was the first of them to arrive in their kingdom. Honestly, Rorik does not like him very much. Eventhough Malek, too, is a rather gloomy and quiet person, he still had this kind of... snobby undertone. Rorik sees Malek as a very manipulative being that knows how to get what it wants. Especially when it comes to flirting with the Atem. With his special powers to be immune to Yaros, it seemed to Rorik like he is the only one to be able to fool Yaro. And while he worries about that, he still trusts Yaros judgement over him. In the end, he just kind of avoids him and rather stays with his brother.

Atem Ra - Rorik met Atem Ra through his position as the Commander of the royal guard. Ra seems like a very honest and emotional person, while trying to hide this between politeness and good manners. Yet he was there whenever Atem Ra asked Atem Yaro for his help. Eventhough he has not much contact with Ra himself, he still respects him and especially his peaceful views. (Also, Rorik is shocked over and over again that he seems blind to Ikarus' advances towards him! Sometimes, he does seem to be a little.... stupid!)

Commander Ikarus - One of Roriks best friends. As the official Commander of the royal guard of the kingdom of the Sun, he has the same title as Commander Ikarus. Yet, their job is VASTLY different. With the kingdom of the Free suffering from constant attacks of the kingdom of the Sublime, the royal guard is absolutely on another level. There are countless guards in- and outside the temple, more than Rorik could ever dream of. All of them are absolutely combat-trained, hand-picked and all willing to die for the sake of Atem Ras safety. And at the top of all of them, trying to manage them all at once is Commander Ikarus. Rorik has a high opinion of him, seeing Ikarus for the noble and proud person he is. He respects him for the intense loyalty towards his Atem, and for the incredible talent he seems to have in just every aspect. Rorik would stand no chance against him in combat, at least not in his human form, and that is not something everyone could simply achieve.

But despite the official relationship, he also befriended the rather professional and shy guard. Ikarus is sensitive to emotions, loves art of any kind and is absolutely passionate about his best friend Ra. So much so, that Rorik was one of the first to actually realize Ikarus' huge crush on his childhood friend. And golly, he wishes Ikarus the best of luck, because he is sure that those two would be the couple of the century.
